About Us
Communities for Better Health (CFBH) is a nonprofit organization with a vision to create healthy, sustainable communities by improving health outcomes and promoting health equity through addressing social and environmental conditions (social determinants of health) in vulnerable communities. Our strategic focus area has been addressing the limited access of nutritious foods in some of Houston’s historic neighborhoods. Access to nutritious food is a critical basic need, but not all communities have equitable access to nutritious foods. Through our work and in collaboration with our partners, we work with and for the people in local neighborhoods and to create sustainable models to increase access to nutritious foods.
Role Overview
CFBH is seeking to hire a Fractional Director of Programs to lead and manage key programmatic initiatives on a part-time, contractual basis. The purpose of this role is to enhance the organization’s program delivery, ensure alignment with strategic goals, and support capacity-building efforts. This RFQ aims to identify a qualified professional or firm with the experience and expertise to fulfill these responsibilities.

The Fractional Director of Programs will:
- Oversee the implementation and evaluation of the food accessibility and capacity building programs.
- Collaborate with staff and stakeholders to ensure program implementation aligns with organizational objectives.
- Manage program budgets, timelines, and deliverables.
- Foster and maintain partnerships and collaborations with key stakeholders and community organizations.
Activities & Deliverables
The selected candidate will be expected to:
- Conduct weekly 1:1 meetings with program staff.
- Facilitate bi-weekly meetings with executive leadership.
- Approve team timesheets.
- Lead the relocation of the Sowing Seeds Community Garden with support from executive leadership.
- Keep grant project activities updated in Asana.
- Complete all grant reports ahead of the deadline.
- Ensure all grant deliverables are completed on time and in compliance with grant requirements.
- Collaborate with executive leadership on strategies to ensure program (grant) deliverables are met.
- Develop a comprehensive program strategy and implementation plan that aligns grant requirements and deliverables.
- Design metrics and evaluation frameworks to measure the success and impact of programs.
Qualifications
We are seeking candidates with the following:
- Proven experience in program management within the nonprofit/ social impact sector.
- Expertise in community engagement and program implementation
- Strong skills in budgeting, planning, and evaluation.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
- Knowledge of project management methodologies
Budget & Timeline
- This contract will last 6 months with an anticipated start date of March 1, 2025.
- The budget for this position will not exceed 20 hours per week, based on an hourly rate and invoices submitted for completed work.
