About Us

We’re Teach Your Monster - a non-profit that creates magical, fun-filled learning games for kids. With the help of friendly monsters, playful design and out-of-this-world storytelling, we work with leading academics to create beautifully crafted games kids love to play. Trusted by teachers and parents, our innovative products aim to engage even the most reluctant of learners.

Our games cover literacy, numeracy and have been played by millions of children. We’re closely supported by The Usborne Foundation — a charity set up by Peter Usborne CBE of Usborne Publishing.

Teach Your Monster is a small and flexible team typically around 20-30 people, many freelance or fractional.

About The Role

We are currently looking for a Fractional Operations Lead who will drive the rhythm of the company, enabling the smooth running of the core activities to ensure the organization works towards its strategic goals in an efficient, financially prudent and legally compliant way.

The Ops Lead will manage a small part-time team of 3 people who provide support to the whole TYM team across the broad areas of Finance, HR, Data Protection, Systems Admin and Administration.

The Ops Lead will also be the main liaison with our external partners for professional legal and financial advice and support.

Time: 2-3 days per week, initial 6 month contract

Location: UK based. Mainly remote, able to commute into the London office when required (TBD but likely to be 1-2 days per month)

The key elements of the role are:

  • Lead Teach Your Monster’s Finance, HR, Data Protection and administrative functions
  • Drive efficiency and simplification to continuously improve internal policies and processes to support Teach Your Monster’s teams in delivering their goals
  • Support the Exec Director by driving Teach Your Monster’s rhythm via a Playbook which enables teams to set the direction and then report and monitor progress towards achieving Teach Your Monster’s strategy
  • Ensure Teach Your Monster is compliant with all relevant legislation and statutory requirements
  • Manage a small team of 3 part-time operations team members and liaise with external advisors to provide TYM with the required reporting, support, controls and guidance in decision making.

About You

  • Experience in a small business (£1-3m) environment essential
  • An analytical and strategic mindset with experience in at least one of Finance/HR areas
  • Experience managing a team
  • Appreciation of agile working practices
  • Likely to be a generalist, able to apply their leadership skills across all areas of Operations.

Approach & Philosophy

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • An influencer, who is positive, encouraging, patient and nurturing
  • A holistic problem solver, imaginative, with a curious approach
  • Loves to work autonomously
  • Bias to action, pro-active and who loves to find ways to do a lot with a little.
  • Enjoys supporting a team of people with creative and entrepreneurial approaches to getting stuff done
  • Someone who can work with others to share ideas and facilitate finding the optimal way.

Skills

  • Exceptionally good written & verbal English communication skills
  • Good skills in financial reporting & modeling
  • Proven people management skills
  • Good skills to ensure strong governance and meetings management

Get In Touch If You Want To...
