About the Role
As a seasoned fundraiser, trusted leader and expert relationship manager, the Director of Development will design the strategy and lead the execution of a best-in-class major donor and corporate fundraising program for NABU. Working hand in hand with the Founders, reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, this role will join our talented Senior Leadership team and help us meet our next major milestone of reaching 25 million children globally by supporting in the development and execution of NABU’s strategic goals.
Applying an entrepreneurial spirit and hands-on work ethic, this leader will develop fundraising practices and implement tools and processes that increase funding and promise an excellent donor experience. Inheriting a robust donor database, the Director is responsible for managing the complete giving cycle, including developing strategies for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors with special focus on six and seven figure multi-year gifts.
What You Will Do
- Develop and deliver a clearly defined major donor fundraising strategy and implement best practices to increase revenue from a mixed revenue strategy; including HNW individuals,Institutional & Family Foundations and Corporate partners.
- You will develop a strategy to define NABU’s optimal donor segments and deploy a journey stewardship strategy that will effectively leverage the CEO and co-founder to produce the highest level of value.
- New business development - strategize and build new relationships with the objective to build a robust pipeline, and convert these leads into multi-year donations.
- Hire and manage a small team aligned to revenue goals and fundraising milestones
- Work cross-functionally to support a $2M revenue target from corporate sponsors in 2024
- Build a qualified portfolio of prospects and current supporters with the capacity to give 5, 6 and 7-figure gifts, combining our existing database and research tools with your ingenuity and resourcefulness
- Develop a metrics-driven approach to your portfolio, analyzing supporter data to find new opportunities, drive efficiencies, and maximize results
- Propose and execute an event strategy and calendar focused on both cultivating new donor relationships and increasing engagement with existing supporters
- Establish the processes and pitch materials to support the Founders in cultivating their own portfolios
- Learn, studying, and becoming an expert on NABU’s work around the world
- Be a collaborative, communicative leader and mentor to the team
- Proactively contribute to the success of the entire organization and team, promoting a compassionate and inclusive culture of high performance and continuous improvement that embodies NABU’s core values
What You Have Done
- At least 10 years of relevant fundraising experience, with proven management experience, ideally in an international organization
- A track record of raising at least $1M annually from major donors, foundations, and/or corporations
- Proven experience building and growing a portfolio of donors within a small, start-up environment
- Worked in a fast-paced, mission-driven, start-up environment where you had to balance rolling-up your sleeves with setting strategy
- Solicited 6 and 7-figure gifts from HNW individuals, Corporate Foundations and Foundations
- Stewarded a portfolio of influential donors
- Managed fundraising teams
