Position Overview
NCCDC seeks an experienced Fractional CFO to oversee financial strategy, reporting, and compliance. This role is critical in ensuring financial sustainability, optimizing financial operations, and supporting strategic growth. The Fractional CFO will work closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to enhance financial health and risk management while maintaining compliance with nonprofit and grant funding requirements.
Responsibilities
Strategic Financial Leadership:
- Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with NCCDC’s mission and growth objectives.
- Provide financial analysis and forecasting to guide decision-making.
- Advise leadership on financial sustainability, risk management, and investment strategies.
Financial Management & Compliance:
- Oversee budgeting, cash flow management, and financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, GAAP, and grant requirements.
- Manage financial audits, liaising with auditors and ensuring accurate documentation.
- Strengthen internal controls to safeguard organizational assets.
Grant & Fund Management:
- Oversee financial reporting for grants, ensuring compliance with funder requirements.
- Collaborate with the development team to prepare grant budgets and financial narratives.
- Monitor and track restricted and unrestricted funding.
Operational Support & Process Improvement:
- Optimize financial processes to improve efficiency and reporting accuracy.
- Support financial oversight for NCCDC’s Business Financial Dashboard initiative.
- Provide guidance on procurement policies, expense management, and cost reduction.
Board & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Present financial reports and insights to the Board of Directors.
- Collaborate with leadership to drive financial transparency and accountability.
- Provide financial guidance to small business owners supported by NCCDC, as needed.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
- Minimum 10 years of financial leadership experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
- Deep understanding of nonprofit financial management, grant accounting, and compliance.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, IRS nonprofit regulations, and audit procedures.
- Proficiency in financial software (QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or similar).
Preferred:
- CPA, CMA, or MBA in Finance preferred.
- Experience working with economic development organizations or small business programs.
- Knowledge of government and philanthropic grant reporting.
- Strong ability to communicate financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
